Rumours of WHV revision ahead
Rumours have recently emerged that the Australian Working Holiday Visa is to be opened up, with the age limit raised, and a provision that allows visa holders a two-year stay if they work in regional tourism jobs.
At present, the WHV allows the holder to stay in Australia for 12 months while holding their ‘initial’ working holiday visa. The plan is receiving support from tourist operators. Additionally, no opposition has been voiced by Australian labour unions as the jobs to be taken by visa holders are temporary and do not require skills. These jobs include hospitality, housekeeping, and fruit picking.
