Australia Skilled Migration Points Test

Australia visa applications for Skilled Employee Sponsored visas and Skilled Independent visas are assessed against the Australian visa requirements points test.

Points are awarded for skill, age, english language ability, specific work experience, occupation in demand (and job offer), Australian qualifications, regional Australia, spouse skills and relationship (Employee sponsored only).

Bonus points can be awarded for:

  • Australian skilled work experience
  • fluency in one of Australia's major community languages, other than English.

The table below shows the current Australia skilled visa requirement for points-tested Australian visas in the General Skilled Migration category.

What if I dont meet the pass mark?
Some visas also carry a pool mark which is lower than the pass mark. If you meet this pool mark, your application will be held 'in the pool' for up to two years after assessment. Then if the pass mark happens to be lowered at any time in that two year period, and you meet this pass new pass mark, your application will become active again.

Spouse Skills

You can claim 5 points if your spouse is able to satisfy the basic requirements of age, English language ability, qualifications, nominated occupation and recent work experience, and has obtained a suitable skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority.

Bonus points

You can only claim bonus points if you meet one of the following options. You cannot receive more than five points for this category, even if you are able to satisfy more than one of the three options:
