The Canadian province of Alberta has signed a deal with the federal government which will allow it to attract ten times the current number of immigrants over the next ten years.
Presently, Alberta’s immigration quota stands at 2,500; however this is set to be increased to 25,000 over the next decade; a figure which is expected to eventually constitute 10 per cent of Canada’s total migrant intake. Read more about Alberta to increase immigration tenfold by 2017 |

The Canadian province of Ontario is set to launch a new initiative that will allow 500 skilled migrant employees per year the chance to circumvent the federal immigration guidelines currently in place.
Under new legislation, the Provisional Nominee Program will allow skilled migrants to enter Ontario within 3-6 months of applying, compared to the normal duration of 2-4 years. Read more about Ontario to fast-track 500 skilled employees per year |

Statistics Canada has announced that approximately two thirds of Canada’s growth in population is currently due to the influx of migrants emigrating to the country to boost the Canadian labour force.
As well as the need for the skills that thousands of migrants bring to Canada every year, the Canadian government has taken urgent steps to recruit workers from abroad as the country’s birth rate is not high enough to sustain its growing economy. Indeed, over the last 5 years, the arrival of new migrants has accounted for a population boost of 1.2 million, compared to the comparatively small figure of 400,000 native-born Canadians.
