Migration to New Zealand to become safer as new agent legislation is enforced

Print E-mail

Immigration to New Zealand is set to become easier and safer when The Immigration Advisors Licensing Act goes live on 4 May 2009, meaning that only licensed  onshore migration agents will be in a position to offer advice to individuals and families hoping to relocate to New Zealand.

Despite that fact that the vast majority of cases whereby applications are lodged through a migration agent are totally issue-free, the government has taken further steps to ensure that ill-qualified and unscrupulous migration representatives are unable to con the unknowing public into employing their services.

As of 4 May, all New Zealand-based migration agents will require a government recognised permit to offer their services. In order to ensure that this policy is strictly followed, the government has stated that any applications lodged by unapproved agents will be automatically failed.

From 4 May 2010, all offshore migration agents will be under the same conditions, meaning that anyone looking to immigrate to New Zealand should check their migration agent is registered before using their services.

Overseas Emigration Visas is a Registered Migration Agency, operated by Richard Gregan, Registered Migration Agent No. 990 5168.
