The tourism industry is against the new legislation which is said to put fees on temporary New Zealand visa holders for installing a biometric information collecting service, reports Radio New Zealand News.

It has not been mentioned where the funds to collect biometric information of New Zealand visa holders and citizens passing through immigration check will come from.

Tourism Industry Association chief executive, Tim Cossar, stated that New Zealand visa holders coming to the country to spend their holidays should not pay for the procedure through a levy.

He also added that visitors should expect no problems when entering New Zealand so the warmth and welcoming spirit of New Zealand from the very first moment they get off the plane.

If the legislation is passed, the system will be used in airports by 2011.
