IT professionals considering a move Down Under will be pleased to know that the country’s skills shortage in the field have significantly increased salaries, pushing Australia’s IT managers into the top 10 highest paid in the world.
These statistics were recently revealed by research company Mercier in a report entitled ‘IT pay around the world during 2006’, which surveyed 6,545 IT companies in 35 countries.
Ken Gilbert, head of human capital at Mercier, commented: “Australia, which is facing a growing skills shortage of IT professionals, has seen IT salaries increasing steadily in recent years, and it is now comparable with other major western countries,”
Another recent report compiled by the Greyhorn Group revealed that Australian IT salaries have increased dramatically in the last twelve months, with professionals receiving, on average, 11.54 percent more than they were this time last year. This increase has put Australia on par, and in many cases beyond, other developed nations in terms of average IT professional income. |
