New Zealand's population increased 1% in 2007 to 4,252,000, Statistics New Zealand said today.

Births outnumbered deaths by 35,000 in 2007 up from 31,500 the previous year and New Zealand had a net migration gain of 5,500, down from 14,600 in 2006.
