More funds pledged to help Ottawa newcomers

Canadian Immigration Minister Dianne Finley has announced that the government will be pledging a further $10 million (£5 million) to six organisations, all of which will help migrants who have recently arrived in Ottawa to adapt to a new way of life.

The funds will go towards various aspects of helping newcomers to settle in the province, including finding employment and language training.

Finley commented: “Our government supports newcomers and we want to help them succeed. The services provided by this funding, such as job-search workshops, will allow newcomers to improve their skills and better prepare for their new lives in Canada.”

She added that the current partnership between Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the settlement organizations is a “tremendous benefit to our community.”

It is hoped that the scheme will boost the number of skilled professionals considering applying for Canadian immigration visas.
