When applying under Australia’s skilled migration program, the occupation you nominate must be present on the Australian Skilled Occupations List (SOL). This list outlines all the occupations that are needed in Australia.
It should not be confused with the Migration Occupations in Demand (MODL) list, which is a shorter list of occupations that currently in high demand. If your occupation also appears on MODL you can claim extra points and your visa application may be fast tracked.
This information page can be used by potential applicants seeking to nominate skilled occupations which are acceptable for permanent and temporary skilled migration to Australia under two separate programs:
General Skilled Migration
Employer Nominated Scheme
Applicants must have a nominated occupation which is on the SOL applicable to their circumstances at the time they apply:
General Skilled Migration Skilled Occupation Lists (SOL)
- The current SOL (schedule 1) – applies to all new GSM applications, including applicants eligible for transitional arrangements if they prefer to use it.
See: Skilled Occupation List (SOL) – Schedule 1 ( 86KB PDF file)
- The State and Territory SOL (schedule 1 and 2) – relevant only for GSM applicants who are nominated by a State or Territory government agency under a State Migration Plan.
