The Cost of a Visa Application to Australia

Starting the visa application for Australia process can be a costly business. For example, a skilled visa application to Australia will involve the following outgoing expenses:

Skills Application

Depending on whether you go through Vetassess or the Trades Recognition Authority, or any other Australian skills body, the cost can range from anything between $600 – $2000 AUD, and sometimes there are two stages to the skills process, meaning further costs! These fees are paid directly to the relevant skills authority by the applicant.

Visa Application Fees for Australia

Visa Application Fees are hefty at the best of times and can cost anywhere between $3600 – $4650 AUD per main applicant, and if your family unit is larger, a partner will be half this cost again and each child will be a quarter of the main applicant’s fee. Returning Residents and Working Holiday Visas cost considerably less than this. These fees are paid at the time of visa lodgement and directly to the Australian immigration authorities.

Medical Examinations

For an applicant from the UK, medical examinations can cost between £200-£300 per applicant, and slightly less for a child applicant.

English Language Testing for Visa Applicants to Australia

Visa applicants are generally required to undertake an English language test. This is often mandatory depending on the type of skills assessment you take, or can be taken to gain extra points for your visa application. IELTS is the most popular English language test and costs between £130-£160.

Mandatory Character Checks

UK Police checks are approximately £45 per person over the age of 18. Fees for police checks from other countries may vary.

Migration Agent Fees

Here at OE Visas we understand how costly the whole process of applying for a visa can be, so you’ll be pleased to learn that we offer very flexible payment schedules for our fees to help you cover the costs more comfortably. Our most popular payment method is payment by instalments which spreads the cost over a longer period of time. For example, we would usually request a deposit of between 25% – 40% with the remainder paid over 4-6 months or more, by instalments. With the growing use of Internet banking, payments can be made by setting up a standing order online.

Government, Skills, health, police and language testing fees, as listed above are paid directly by the applicant to the relevant organisation.
