Sponsored Jobs for Carpenters In Australia

Wondering about the Employer Sponsored Visa for Australia? Read on about how it could mean skilled migration to Australia for carpenters. Carpenters work throughout the construction, manufacturing and retail industries. There are 123,900 carpenters in Australia, with an upwards trend in demand for this profession. With the growth of the construction industry, carpenters are in short supply, and eligible professionals are needed across the country. Associated jobs include: cabinet makers, joiners, millwrights, and hardwood floor layers.

Australian Skills Assessment

Before moving to Australia, you are required to take an Australian skills or qualification assessment. The Consolidated Skilled Occupations List (CSOL) lists all occupations and skillsets Australia needs. Carpenters and associated professions are high on the list. There are also specific lists for each state if you know where you’d like to move to in the country.

Migrating to Australia

Before looking for a job, you need to acquire a visa to work and live in Australia if you’re not already an Australian citizen. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) will handle the processing of your visa and although useful, their website can be confusing for potential migrants who are unsure which visa to choose. There are a number of different paths you can take to apply for a visa to Australia:

  • 457 Employer Sponsored Visa - a temporary four-year visa. An approved employer can act as a business sponsor and nominate a skilled position from the CSOL in Australia. The intended employee can then apply for a visa to fill that position.
  • 186 Employer Nomination Scheme - allows an employer from anywhere in Australia to sponsor highly skilled employees (from outside or already working in the country) for permanent residency.
  • 187 Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme - allows an employer from anywhere in Australia to sponsor highly skilled employees (from outside or already working in the country) for permanent residency in their current region of work.

Finding a Job in Australia

You should only apply for a carpentry job after you have received confirmation of your visa and ability to work and live in Australia, as many employers will demand proof of your eligibility and migrant status. Here are a couple of speciality job seeker sites to get you started:

Skilled Jobs Industry Contacts

Having some industry contacts before emigrating is useful because you will already have an established network of support and resources. • Now that I have scraped myself off the ceiling following the exciting news regarding my VISA grant I received on Friday, I just wanted to pass on my thanks for your part in making all of this possible. A number of years ago I had a phone consultation with another company (didn’t know about OE at the time) and came away disheartened as there thoughts on my success at this was far from favourable. Yet on conversation with Laurence he stated to me that I could get a visa without state sponsorship and it would take 7 months and that I should be wary of the IELTS test. If I have my dates correct it took about 9 months but would have been 7 were it not for the IELTS test! Again, your patience support and effort were greatly appreciated and I have passed on this experience to a number of friends who are also thinking of making the move and that they should use OE.
    – Graeme and family, Australia
  • All going well. Thank you, after all the work that was put in from your office with regards our emigration we cannot thank you enough, again many thanks for everything!
    – Michael Coombes, Australia
  • Thank you so so much and everybody at OE for everything. We are over the moon! We are all in shock and there are tears! Thank you again.
    – Warren Baldwin-Jones, Canada
