Questions:

Hi We are a family of four, we have two boys aged 2 and 8. Our 8 year old son has learning difficulties and speech delay, and needs teaching assistance and help at school. Do we have any chance of emigrating to New Zealand. We are desperate for a better life for us and our children.

I want to emigrate to new Zealand with my husband and 11 yr old daughter. However my ex husband who is my daughter father will not give us permission. He has not seen our daughter for years and never kept up the visting order granted to him by the court. My daughter calls her stepfather dad and has done for the last five years. Is ther anyway we can take her with us without his permission and how would we go about it. It seems unfair that he has so many rights when he never has anything to do with her. Currently we think he is in Cyprus with the army but we are not sure as all we have for him is an email address.

Your application will depend upon an independant assesment of your child during which a "cost versus benefit" (my words) will be done. If it costs too much to look after the child in NZ then the application will be refused. Australia are harsher in my experience in these judgements though! Call for guidance - 0131 625 6906

yes - it will. Obviously consideration is given to individual circumstances, seriousness, length of time elapsed since the crime etc.

You are right. It doesnt seem fair. But there are rules relating to the Hague Convention to which the U.K. and N.Z. are signatories. dont even try this one alone. Get a professional on the job. Call Richard Gregan 0131 625 6906.

What we spend in Pounds sterling in the UK - they spend in $ NZD as a very rough rule of thumb...
