My boyfriend and I are very interested in moving out to Australia. I have looked into it but found information contradictory amd confusing. Do I have to of worked as a hairdresser for 4 years before applying for a visa or is it 12 months? Also if I found an employer willing to sponser me, would this enable our visa to be granted? My partner and I have lived together for 2 1/2 years, will he be able to gain residency through me?

Hi We have today contacted the CHC in London via email because many applications with an AOR date later than ours appear to have been processed and undertaken medicals. We have received a rather curt reply from the CHC 'your application has been reviewed. An immigration officer will write to you in the next 6 - 8 weeks'. Do you think this seems an awful long time to wait if they were going to proceed to the next stage and ask us to have our medicals? The reply email certainly does not give you the feeling that our news is going to be positive.
Hi, We applied for permanent residency to Canada in August 2004. We received a letter from the Canadian High Commission in March 2006 informing us that due to the high volume of applications they were confident that our case would be reviewed by End December 2006. The letter also asked that we did not acknowledge this correspondence or contact them regarding processing times. We have just read in Emigrate Canada (which we subscribe to) that the CHC are currently reviewing applications submitted in September and October 2004. This is a very informative newspaper that I read from cover to cover and have not seen anything prior to the Jan 2007 issue that suggests that we should have been concerned. I have also seen a news item on the CHC website that informs applicants that letters were sent regarding applications submitted in September and October 2004 informing them that they have 90 days to update their applications. We have received no such letter although we submitted our application before that time. Obviously we are extremely concerned about this and are now wondering what we should do. We have checked the status of our application online on a regular basis but it just says 'in process'. My husband also has a current application with the Calgary Police Force - he has passed the written assessments last October and is waiting to be asked to go to Calgary to complete further assessments including a physical test. Will our application have been archived and classed as void or could there be another reason as to why we have not received any correspondence since March 2006? Two and a half years is a long time to suddenly find out that because we have not received the letter asking us to update our application our whole future could be in jeopardy. We are so desperate for news and wondered whether you could help us. Thank you for taking the time to read this and please, please help if you can. Kind Regards Karen
I am possibly looking at entering an IVA, or even personal bankrupsy. Would either of these effect my chances of immigration chances into Austrlalia.

For Australia you are going to have to go back to work (minimum 20 hours) for the next 6 or 12 months. Call OE for further advice.

Yes - imprisonment will count against you. Time since last offence will count in your favour. I do not recomend this situation is one DIY migration. OE Visas number is listed above or find a good Registered Migration Agent with experience in this this aspect of migration near you.

Health is not a compulsory matter in USA immigration. You will need a USA based attorney.

1/ if you qualify through skilled or business routes you can apply while in Australia. I dislike this route however as there is lots of pressure on you the applicant to get information and to travel out of the country for visa grant. The timing of the grant does not always coincide with plane fares and dates and can end being costly. You cannot apply for a working holiday visa if you have children.

I will have to pass on answering this as I have absolutely no experience of dealing with this visa catergory. I suggest you contact a RMA near you. www.themara.com.au

No. This wont hinder you. If they are dependant you will need to have them undergo medical and penal clearances - EVEN though they are not emigrating.

I would be waiting to hear in the next 4 to 6 weeks. They are so slow! All you can do is wait.

For skilled visas it is not likely. For business visas it would be the kiss of death. For any visa it can be considered against "character" but in my experience is not
