Do you have to have skills to enter Canada? I plan to go for one year and have a sponsor.
I already have indefinite residency in New Zealand as I am about to return to New Zealand in 2007. I would like to know how I go about becoming a citizen.
I have separated from my wife who now intends to emigrate to the USA with my three children. She currently has a brother living in the States who has agreed to sponsor her. Is she able to take my children with her without my approval? Is there anything else she requires before a visa is provided?
My assurer has been asked to go for an interview at Centerlink in Sydney is this normal? We have had our medicals and PCs have been sent off, what sort of timescale are we looking at now before we know?
I am 18 and am thinking of moving to Canada, within one to three years. Can you please tell me if I would be eligible for a permanent working visa, and if so the conditions involved in it. I would also like to know, if in the future if i do make it to Canada, would this also make me eligible to live in the USA? Looking forward to reading your reply. Thanks

My husband and I hold the subclass 173 Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa. When we apply for the Contributory Parent Permanent Residency visa do we have to pay a bond as well as the fee for the visa? I believe the visa fee is around 30,000 Australian Dollars and the bond is 10,000 dollars per person. I thought as we were paying for entry into the country we would not have to pay a bond as well.

Under the subclass 173 Contributory Parent (Temporary) visa where the temporary visa has been granted under a joint application as husband and wife with the husband as the primary applicant, in what way would a change of marital status affect the validity of the temporary visa for the secondary applicant and the progression of the secondry applicant towards the permanent parent contributary visa?
My wife was born in New Zealand and the place of birth on her passport reflects this, does this mean it would be relativly easy for our family to emigrate to New Zealand?

Questions & Answers
Do you have to have skills to enter Canada? I plan to go for one year and have a sponsor.
Under the general skills program you must have appropriate qualifications and skills. To obtain a temporary visa for say one year you require sponsorship from an employer who has approval to employ & sponsor non Canadian citizens. Approval is sought through the Human Resource Department of Canada HRDC.

You must live in New Zealand as a permanent resident for 3 years before you are eligible to apply for NZ Citizenship. For permanent residency gained after April 21 2005 the limit has increased to five years, but the criteria is for you to have held that residency status as opposed to living in New Zealand for that time.

The Hague Convention applies - and the answer is.... It would be difficult for her to take the children without either your consent or a court order allowing her to do so. Not impossoble - but difficult. You really need a solicitor to guide you here.
My assurer has been asked to go for an interview at Centerlink in Sydney is this normal? We have had our medicals and PCs have been sent off, what sort of timescale are we looking at now before we know?
Yes it is normal for your assurer to be asked to go to Centerlink for an interview. This process has been in place for about six months and DIMIA handed the assessment of the assurer to the Department of Social Security. Once DIMIA receive the Med/police & Centerlink approve the assurer you could be looking at up to a month to have the visa in your passport. This can vary however on current processing times within DIMIA and Centerlink.

To be eligible for permanent migration to Canada you have to meet a set pass mark. Usually you will require at least 4 years relevant work experience in an occupation on the skills list and degree qualification or a Higher National Diploma of at least 2 years study. Once permanent migration has been obtained you have to live in Canada and obtain citizenship. Once you are a Canadian then work and living is available in the USA.
If you gain eleigibility in New Zealand based on your qualifications, do you have to get a job in that specific area?
Yes, normally you will require a job related to your occupation & or previous work experience.

You will have to pay the following: $26,475 per applicant for the 2nd visa application charge. A bond MUST be paid which is $10,000 for the main applicant and $4,000 for the secondary applicant. So in total you will have to pay $66,950 AUD Please note there is a currency converter link at the bottom of this page

To apply for an occupational trainee visa you will need sponsorship from an employee in Australia. OE Visas cannot provide any assistance for this. The same situation applies for the temporary medical practitioner visa. For permanent migration as a doctor you will need to go to Australia sit an exam and complete a practical work period to obtain registration and have your qualifications recognised. We cannot assist in this assessment for doctors so you will need to contact the Australian Medical Council directly for further information.

You will have to advise the Department of Immigration of a change in your circumstances firstly. If a joint application is made and the main applicant continues their application and still meets the requirements then the main applicant’s application proceeds as normal.
My wife was born in New Zealand and the place of birth on her passport reflects this, does this mean it would be relativly easy for our family to emigrate to New Zealand?
Yes, your spouse will need to apply to the NZ House in London to the Consular section to obtain a NZ passport. On obtaining this she will be eligible to sponsor her partner/spouse to NZ as a permanent resident. Any children under 18 in the relationship must also be registered as NZ citizens and require a NZ passport to go and live in NZ. OE Visas assists in this process, for a further assessment please complete our onsite assessment form and OE Visas NZ lawyer will assist you in this process. If you would like further info on the requirements the family would have to meet don't hesitate to e-mail (zane@my-oe.com ) and I will supply the relevant info. "
