Hello, I am looking to immigrate to the USA in a couple of years (2008/9) after I finish my doctorate in Clinical psychology. My areas of specialization are clinical and forensic psychology. I have been looking for jobs for a couple of years and I have found many that I am qualified to do both in the public and private sector. I did complete an internship programme in USA in 2003/4, so I have experience living and working in the country. I would love to go back and live and work, do you think you could speculate on my chances of getting a visa to permanently live and work in the USA?
If my child is disabled will this affect my application for immigration to Australia? I am a Social Worker and have family who have previously emmigrated and would be willing to sponsor me.

You should put down in Australian dollars the amount of money you will be taking with you.

Hello, 1/ Non adult children cannot sponsor parents. 2/ As your occupations arent on SOL you cannot emigrate under "General Skilled Migration". I do not see any other avenues open for you.

Depending upon your age - either as a WHM - 1 to 2 year temporary visa holder then onto a permanent visa OR - get the required post qualification Recent Work Experience (RWE) and apply for a permanet visa from the UK.

There is no set amount required - (unless you need to gain an extra 5 points by banking a Government bond of $100 K AUD). Common sense will dictate a reasonable sum in your back pocket on disembarcation will make your arrival and settling in phase all the more comfortable.

Depending upon the degree of disability - yes it will affect your application. The factor considered is; how much will this person cost Australia to look after?
