A poll carried out by Ipsos-Reid had shown that the vast majority of Canadians feel positive about migration. According to the polls results, 90 percent of Canadians disagree with the statement that newcomers should “go back to where they came from”, whilst almost two-thirds of respondents believed that migrants should have just as much say in the future of Canada as Canadian-born citizens. Compared to a similar poll carried out in 1993, Canadians as a whole seem significantly more at ease with granting migrants the same rights that they hold themselves, as responses show a decrease in the number of Canadians who feel that this should not be the case. John Wright, senior vice-president of Ipsos-Reid, said a recent survey of eight countries revealed that Canada stood out as more positive about immigration than countries such as the U.S., England, Germany and Italy. |
