Construction Jobs On The Skilled Occupation List
If you are a skilled worker, particularly one working in the construction industry, then you’re in luck. There are plenty of job opportunities available in Australia. The construction industry is experiencing a profound period of rapid growth and the country is in need of skilled construction workers. The lifestyle, wages, working hours and opportunities for further career progression are extremely appealing, attracting many migrants from the UK and Ireland.
List of Skilled Occupations Australia
If you are applying for an Australian skilled visa, first you must nominate an occupation from the Skilled Occupations List (SOL). This government-regulated list is updated annually, and jobs are either added or removed based on the needs of the country. Before making an application, you should check the SOL to see whether your occupation and skills are currently sought after.
Here are some examples of construction jobs available in Australia (as of March 2017):
- Construction Project Manager
- Wall and Floor Tiler
If you don’t see your occupation or skillset on our list of examples, check the SOL as there are over 100 other different jobs which require skilled workers to fill the labour force shortage.
Benefits of working in Australia
There are so many reasons why skilled workers choose to live and/or work in Australia, either temporarily or permanently. The lifestyle is vastly different, focusing much more on the benefits of relaxation and spending time with friends and family. The minimum wage and average salary is much higher than in the UK and Ireland, with greater flexibility in working hours and opportunities for overtime (source). As an additional bonus, there are lots of opportunities for further study and to expand your skills and enhance your chances of career progression.
Applying for a visa
If you are currently in any of these occupations, you can apply for a Skilled Nominated Visa. You will be required to complete a Trades Skills Assessment, which will award you with an Australian equivalent of your UK qualifications.
This Skills Assessment will require evidence of your current qualifications and proof of work experience relating to your occupation.
