Australia facing critical shortage of doctors and nurses

by | Dec 4, 2012

Health Workforce Australia reports that the country will face a shortage of 109,000 nurses in aged care and mental health by 2025. In the same period, the number of doctors will face a shortfall of 2,700. The shortage of qualified health professionals is particularly acute in remote areas of Queensland, Northern Territory and Western Australia. As a result, generous employment conditions are being offered in these states. Graduate doctors in these states can earn A$100,000 (£64,738) annually, and up to A$400,000 (£258,954) a year for specialists. Registered nurses receive an annual salary range of A$78,000 (£50,495) to A$130,000 (£84,158).
