Australia overhauls skills shortage list

Australia’s Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), has stated that new changes to its skills shortage list ‘are designed to better respond to the labour market demand’. A small number of occupations were added to the list, including production managers, metallurgists and computer engineers. Bricklayers, floor and wall tilers, and chemists will now find it more difficult to apply for permanent residency, unless they apply for sponsorship.
