2013 saw a net inflow of 19,500 new migrants to New Zealand. British migrants led the gain with 5940 arrivals, followed by 5575 Chinese migrants and 5300 Indians. Net immigration is held to be one of the contributing factors to the volatile property market in Auckland, resulting in the Reserve Bank increasing interest rates to keep a lid on future inflation.
