New Zealand newspaper calls on government to increase immigration

by | Mar 10, 2014

The New Zealand Herald, the country’s most widely read newspaper, has called on the government to dramatically increase the level of immigration in an effort to help the economy. The paper says that, unless the country increases the immigration rate now, it may prove harder to attract immigrants seeking economic opportunity there in future. New Zealand’s 2013 census indicated that the population of the country had grown by 5.3% over the past seven years, but this rate is half of that between 2001 and 2006. According to The Herald, this proves that the country is failing to do enough to attract new migrants.
