Calling all chefs and sous chefs, Australia is calling out for you. There are currently vacancies for chefs and sous chefs in Melbourne. When it comes to applying for a Skilled Nominated Visa there are a few things to consider such as a skills assessment. The assessment process for Chefs can differ depending on the citizenship of the applicant. Passport holders from the following countries will be assessed by Vetassess.
- Hong Kong SAR
- Macau SAR
- South Africa
- Sri Lanka
- United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland
For a Vetasses skills assessment, Chefs will need to demonstrate a minimum of five years of full time employment in the profession as well as 12 months of employment within the last three years. Vetassess skills assessment has a two stage application process. Firstly, applicants are asked to submit a document-based application with detailed employment evidence including any qualifications they hold, in addition to employment references and pay evidence. If this is approved then the applicant will be invited to undertake an online technical interview, conducted via webcam with a Vetassess Assessment Officer. The total skills fee is $1985 AUD ($635 + $1350). A successful outcome will result in a positive skills result letter and an AQF Diploma qualification. If the applicant is from a country other than those listed above, then the pathway is via Trades Recognition Australia (TRA). For a TRA application, the applicant must submit a document-based application, which includes a relevant AQF Diploma equivalent qualification, as well as a minimum of three years of post-qualification employment, including at least 12 months in the last three years. The TRA fee is $1000 AUD.
