DIAC to close five engineering/computing occupations

by | Aug 16, 2013

We have received information to the effect that the following occupations have reached their ceilings for the 2013/2014 year and are about to be closed off for any new 190 visa applications until at least July 2014: Electronics Engineers Chemical and Materials Engineers Other Engineering Professionals ICT Business and Systems Analysts Software and Applications Programmers This means that anyone who is considering applying for a visa under these occupation categories MUST meet the requirements for independent 189 visa (or 489 Family) – they will not be able to apply via State nomination (190). It is recommended that applicants maximize their points so that they meet the 189 points threshold, either through additional employment points or a higher IELTS result, or both.
