Melbourne enjoys population surge

by | Sep 5, 2012

Melbourne has seen its population grow by over half a million people in the last decade, and this is partly due to overseas migration, according to Andrew Howe, spokesman for the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Overall, Melbourne has seen an increase in its population of 647,200 people, with the suburb of South Morang seeing the largest increase. ‘What comes to the fore over the past five years is the level of overseas migration. A lot of them have chosen to move to Melbourne’, Howe said. Meanwhile, Queensland’s capital city, Brisbane, has seen a population increase of 25%, the second fastest capital city growth in the country.
