Scammer alert for Australian visa applicants

by | Sep 12, 2013

DIAC has revealed that some holders of temporary immigration visas in Australia are being targeted by a visa scam. Scammers are masquerading as government officials and contacting migrants claiming that there is something wrong with their ‘Citizenship and Immigration Services Alien’ (CISA) number. The scammer may then ask the migrant to pay some sort of fee, usually around AUD$900, to fix the problem with their CISA number, or risk being deported. A spokesman for DIAC has reminded all migrants in Australia that the government would never phone and demand a visa payment.
